ABQnews| Deutschland / USA | CDU-Vorsitzkandidat Friedrich Merz lehnt in der Debatte um Rassismus und Polizeigewalt Vergleiche zwischen Deutschland und den USA ab. Er halte es für “unzulässig, die Bilder aus Amerika eins zu eins auf Deutschland zu übertragen”, sagte der frühere Fraktionschef den Zeitungen der Funke Mediengruppe (Donnerstagsausgaben).
Die USA hätten seit der Abschaffung der Sklaverei “das Problem der Rassendiskriminierung bis heute nicht wirklich gelöst”. In Deutschland gebe es eine solche Situation nicht, argumentierte Merz. Auch gebe es hierzulande keinen “latenten Rassismus” in der Polizei. Diesen Vorwurf hatte die SPD-Vorsitzende Saskia Esken erhoben und damit eine heftige Diskussion ausgelöst.
Zehntausende Menschen hatten am vergangenen Wochenende in mehreren deutschen Städten gegen Rassismus demonstriert. Die weltweiten Anti-Rassismus-Proteste waren durch den Tod des Afroamerikaners George Floyd vor zweieinhalb Wochen bei einem brutalen Polizeieinsatz in der US-Großstadt Minneapolis ausgelöst worden.
