ABQnews| UN / USA / WHO | UN-Generalsekretär António Guterres hat die Ankündigung von US-Präsident Donald Trump, die Beitragszahlungen seines Landes an die Weltgesundheitsorganisation (WHO) einzustellen, kritisiert. Jetzt sei “nicht die Zeit, um die Mittel für Aktivitäten der Weltgesundheitsorganisation oder einer anderen humanitären Organisation” zu kürzen, erklärte Guterres am Dienstag.
Er sei der Überzeugung, dass es im weltweiten “Krieg” gegen die Coronavirus-Pandemie “absolut notwendig” sei, die WHO zu unterstützen, betonte Guterres. Zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt werde erforscht werden, “wie jeder, der von der Krise betroffen war, reagiert hat”, erklärte er weiter.
Trump hatte am Dienstag bei einer Pressekonferenz im Weißen Haus die Aussetzung der US-Beitragszahlungen an die WHO verkündet. Währenddessen werde überprüft, welche Rolle die WHO bei der “schlechten Handhabung und der Verschleierung der Ausbreitung des Virus” gespielt habe, sagte Trump. Erneut warf er der WHO massive Versäumnisse beim Kampf gegen das Coronavirus sowie eine zu große China-Nähe vor.
