ABQnews| Deutschland / Israel | Mit einer großen internationalen Konferenz erinnert Israel am Donnerstag an die Befreiung des NS-Vernichtungslagers Auschwitz vor 75 Jahren (ab 12.30 Uhr MEZ). Unter den Rednern ist Bundespräsident Frank-Walter Steinmeier, der damit als erstes deutsches Staatsoberhaupt eine Ansprache in Israels Holocaust-Gedenkstätte Yad Vashem halten wird. Mehr als 30 Staatsoberhäupter haben sich für die Zeremonie angekündigt. Zu den Rednern zählen Russlands Präsident Wladimir Putin, Frankreichs Staatschef Emmanuel Macron und der britische Thronfolger Prinz Charles.
Zum Auftakt seines Israel-Besuchs am Mittwoch würdigte Steinmeier es als “Zeichen der Versöhnung”, dass er zu der Ansprache nach Yad Vashem eingeladen wurde. Bei einem Treffen mit Holocaust-Überlebenden bekannte er sich zur fortwährenden Verantwortung Deutschlands für den Holocaust. Das Welt-Holocaust-Forum in Yad Vashem bildet den Auftakt zu einer Reihe von Gedenkveranstaltungen: Am Montag findet eine Feier in Auschwitz statt, am Mittwoch erinnert der Bundestag in einer Gedenkstunde an den Jahrestag der Befreiung.
