ABQnews| Deutschland / Israel | Bundespräsident Frank-Walter Steinmeier reist am Mittwoch zu einem zweitägigen Besuch nach Israel, in dessen Mittelpunkt das Gedenken an die Befreiung des NS-Vernichtungslagers Auschwitz vor 75 Jahren stehen soll. Nach seiner Ankunft wird Steinmeier von Israels Präsident Reuven Rivlin zu einem Gespräch empfangen (12.15 Uhr), danach besucht der Bundespräsident ein Behandlungszentrum, das Holocaust-Überlebenden und deren Familien psychosoziale Unterstützung bietet (13.00 Uhr). Dort will Steinmeier auch mit Überlebenden ins Gespräch kommen.

Am Donnerstag will Steinmeier als erster Bundespräsident eine Ansprache in Israels nationaler Holocaust-Gedenkstätte Yad Vashem halten. Dort findet das “Welt-Holocaust-Forum” statt, zu dem sich mehr als 30 Staatsoberhäupter angekündigt haben. Nach Angaben des Präsidialamts in Jerusalem ist es die größte internationale Zusammenkunft in der Geschichte des Landes. Am Donnerstagabend kehrt Steinmeier zurück nach Berlin.
