ABQnews| Deutschland / Braunschweig  | Jörg Meuthen ist als AfD-Parteichef im Amt bestätigt worden. Der 58-Jährige erhielt am Samstag beim Bundesparteitag in Braunschweig 69,2 Prozent der Stimmen. Damit setzte er sich klar gegen die Gegenkandidaten Nicole Höchst und Wolfgang Gedeon durch.

Meuthen sagte in seiner Bewerbungsrede mit Blick auf Union und SPD: “Die ehemaligen Volksparteien sind zur politischen Führung nicht mehr imstande.” Die AfD müsse “nun regierungswillig und -fähig werden”, sagte er. “Das ist die Aufgabe für die nächsten zwei Jahre”.

Meuthen steht seit Juli 2015 an der Spitze der AfD. Seit Ende 2017 führte er die Partei gemeinsam mit Alexander Gauland, der nicht mehr kandidiert. Meuthen setzte sich gegen die Bundestagsabgeordnete Höchst und den Baden-Württemberger Gedeon durch, gegen den wegen Antisemitismus- und Rassismusvorwürfen ein Parteiausschlussverfahren läuft. Höchst erhielt 24,8 Prozent, für Gedeon stimmten 3,8 Prozent der Delegierten.

Der Nachfolger Gaulands wird im Anschluss bestimmt. Die Bundesspitze präferiert dabei den sächsischen Bundestagsabgeordneten Tino Chrupalla. Allerdings gibt es auch bei dieser Wahl Gegenkandidaten.
