ABQnews| Deutschland / Berlin / Leipzig | Der für sein politisches Engagement bekannte Rockmusiker Udo Lindenberg und der Astronaut Alexander Gerst werden zum diesjährigen Tag der deutschen Einheit mit dem Verdienstorden der Bundesrepublik geehrt. Bundespräsident Frank-Walter Steinmeier wird die Auszeichnung am 2. Oktober zudem auch an führende DDR-Bürgerrechtler wie Rainer Eppelmann, Carlo Jordan und Jens Reich verleihen, wie das Bundespräsidialamt am Montag in Berlin mitteilte. Insgesamt werden 25 Bürger geehrt.
Darunter sind auch jene Bürgerrechtsaktivisten und Journalisten, die dafür sorgten, das Filmaufnahmen von der großen Montagdemonstration am 9. Oktober 1989 in Leipzig entstanden und nach Westdeutschland geschmuggelt wurden, wo sie im Fernsehen ausgestrahlt wurden. Dies gilt als wichtiger Beitrag zur Beschleunigung der Ereignisse. Geehrt werden darüber hinaus auch mehrere Wissenschaftler wie die die Historiker Jürgen Osterhammel und Karl Schlögel sowie die Lyrikerin Elke Erb.
