ABQnews| Deutschland / EU / Berlin | Der Bundeswahlleiter hat die Bundesbürger am Sonntagmorgen noch einmal zur Stimmabgabe bei der Europawahl aufgerufen. Er verwies auf die “besondere Bedeutung der Wahl” für die Einflussnahme der Wähler auf die künftigen politischen Entscheidungen in der EU. Noch bis 18.00 Uhr können Wähler von ihrem Wahlrecht Gebrauch machen, erinnerte Georg Thiel.
Die Wahlen zum Europaparlament hatten am Sonntagmorgen begonnen, bundesweit öffneten um 08.00 Uhr die Wahllokale. Zur Wahl stellen sich 41 Parteien und politische Vereinigungen, Deutschland entsendet 96 Abgeordnete in das 751 Mitglieder umfassende Europaparlament.
Auch wer eine Wahlbenachrichtigung bekommen und diese verlegt hat, kann seine Stimme abgeben, betonte der Bundeswahlleiter. Wer verhindert ist, kann in besonderen Ausnahmefällen, etwa bei kurzfristiger Erkrankung, seinen
Wahlschein sowie Briefwahlunterlagen noch bis 15.00 Uhr beantragen.
Im rheinland-pfälzischen Schweich gab die SPD-Spitzenkandidatin Katarina Barley am Vormittag ihre Stimme ab, Bundespräsident Frank-Walter Steinmeier wählte in Berlin.
