ABQnews| EU / Brüssel | Zwei Wochen vor der Europawahl kommen die EU-Staats- und Regierungschefs heute zu einem Gipfel im rumänischen Sibiu (Hermannstadt) zusammen (12.30 Uhr). Sie wollen dort zehn Verpflichtungen zur Zukunft Europas verabschieden und eine erste Aussprache über mögliche Themenschwerpunkte bis zum Jahr 2024 führen. Darüber hinaus beraten die Staats- und Regierungschefs über das Verfahren, mit dem nach der Europawahl der nächste EU-Kommissionspräsident bestimmt werden soll.
An dem Gipfel nehmen die 27 Mitgliedstaaten ohne Großbritannien teil. Das Vereinigte Königreich hätte eigentlich schon Ende März aus der EU austreten sollen. Bisher gibt es aber keine Mehrheit im britischen Unterhaus für das mit der EU ausgehandelte Austrittsabkommen. Der Austrittstermin wurde deshalb auf spätestens Ende Oktober verschoben.
