ABQnews| Frankreich / Japan / Dänemark / Kenia / Sudan |  Ein Foto von jungen Demonstranten im Sudan ist zum Welt-Pressefoto gekürt worden. Die Aufnahme des AFP-Fotografen Yasuyoshi Chiba wurde am Donnerstag in Amsterdam als bestes Pressefoto des Jahres mit dem renommierten World Press Photo Award ausgezeichnet. Das am 19. Juni 2019 in der Hauptstadt Khartum aufgenommene Bild zeigt, wie ein junger Sudaner umgeben von anderen Demonstranten im Dunklen inbrünstig ein Gedicht rezitiert – erhellt wird das Bild nur von Handylichtern der Umstehenden.

Das Bild des japanischen Fotografen zeige die Macht der Jugend und der Kunst und verfüge über “poetische” Qualität, erklärte die Jury des World Press Photo Awards. Einer der Juroren sprach von einem “Symbol der Hoffnung”. Im Sudan war im vergangenen Jahr der langjährige Machthaber Omar al-Baschir gestürzt worden, der das afrikanische Land fast 30 Jahre autoritär regiert hatte.

Mit dem Hauptpreis für die Kategorie Nachrichten-Reportage wurde ein weiterer AFP-Fotograf ausgezeichnet: Der Däne Nicolas Asfouri erhielt die Auszeichnung für seine Fotos von den Anti-Regierungs-Protesten in Hongkong.

Der World Press Photo Award ist eine der renommiertesten Auszeichnungen für Pressefotografen. In diesem Jahr gab es wegen der Coronavirus-Pandemie keine Preisverleihung in Amsterdam, sondern lediglich eine Videokonferenz.
