ABQnews| Türkei / Istanbul | Auf Einladung des türkischen Präsidenten Recep Tayyip Erdogan kommen am Samstag (gegen 15.00 Uhr) Bundeskanzlerin Angela Merkel (CDU), Frankreichs Staatschef Emmanuel Macron und der russische Präsident Wladimir Putin zu einem Syrien-Gipfel in Istanbul zusammen. Sie wollen über die Lage in der letzten Rebellenbastion Idlib und den stockenden Friedensprozess sprechen.
Die Türkei und der Westen wollen eine Offensive auf die von vorwiegend islamistischen Milizen kontrollierte Provinz Idlib vermeiden, da sie ein erneutes Ansteigen der Flüchtlingszahlen fürchten. Syriens Verbündeter Russland scheint vorerst gewillt, eine Offensive zu verhindern. Es benötigt Ankara, um eine angestrebte politische Lösung bei der Opposition durchzusetzen. Die Europäer braucht Moskau wiederum, um den Wiederaufbau des kriegszerstörten Landes zu finanzieren.
