ABQnews| EU / Sacharow-Preises | Das Europaparlament entscheidet am Donnerstag (12.00 Uhr) über die Vergabe des diesjährigen Sacharow-Preises für Menschenrechte. Als Favorit gilt der in Russland inhaftierte ukrainische Filmemacher Oleg Senzow. Neben dem nach einem monatelangen Hungerstreik sehr geschwächten 42-Jährigen wurden außerdem der ebenfalls inhaftiere marokkanische Menschenrechtsaktivist Nasser Zefzafi sowie Hilfsorganisationen, die im Mittelmeer Flüchtlinge retten, nominiert. Die drei Kandidaten wurden von den Ausschüssen für Außenpolitik und Entwicklung bestimmt.
Die Entscheidung liegt beim Präsidenten des Europaparlaments, Antonio Tajani, und den Chefs der acht Fraktionen. Der nach dem verstorbenen russischen Dissidenten und Physiker Andrej Sacharow benannte und mit 50.000 Euro dotierte Preis wird vom Europaparlament seit 1988 an Persönlichkeiten oder Organisationen verliehen, die sich für Menschenrechte und Demokratie einsetzen.
