ABQnews| Deutschland / Düsseldorf / Mainz | Narren und Jecken am Rhein feiern am Donnerstag den Beginn des Straßenkarnevals. In den Karnevalshochburgen Köln, Düsseldorf und Mainz beginnt um 11.11 Uhr der Höhepunkt des rheinischen Karnevals mit der Weiberfastnacht. In allen drei Städten wird die Polizei mit einem Großaufgebot im Einsatz sein. In Köln steht die Feier dieses Jahr unter dem Motto “Et Hätz schleiht em Veedel”.
Mehrere zehntausend Menschen werden erwartet. Vielerorts stürmen an Weiberfastnacht Karnevalsvereine die Rathäuser. Traditionell finden an diesem Tag auch viele Frauensitzungen statt. Ein Brauch ist es, dass Frauen Männern die Krawatten abschneiden. Am Rosenmontag ziehen dann die großen Umzüge durch die Karnevalshochburgen. Zwei Tage später heißt es wieder: Am Aschermittwoch ist alles vorbei.
