ABQnews| Griechenland / Athens | Griechenland hat erstmals in seiner Geschichte eine Frau zum Staatsoberhaupt gewählt. Eine parteiübergreifende Mehrheit von 261 von 300 Abgeordneten votierte am Mittwoch im ersten Wahlgang für Ekaterini Sakellaropoulou, wie Parlamentspräsident Costas Tassoulas mitteilte. Die 63-jährige Top-Juristin folgt auf den Konservativen Prokopis Pavlopoulos, dessen fünfjährige Amtszeit im März regulär endet.
Das griechische Staatsoberhaupt hat rein repräsentative Aufgaben, doch ist die Wahl der Richterin zur Präsidentin in einem Land, in dem Frauen immer noch stark diskriminiert werden, von großem symbolischen Wert. Sakellaropoulou hat mit derartigen Premieren Erfahrung: Im Oktober 2018 wurde sie bereits als erste Frau in der Geschichte des Landes Präsidentin des Staatsrats – des Verfassungs- sowie Obersten Verwaltungsgerichts in Griechenland.
