“Sir, aus Hochachtung vor der Souveränität der Republik Irak und wie vom irakischen Parlament und dem Ministerpräsidenten gefordert, wird CJTF-OIR die Truppen im Verlauf der kommenden Tage und Wochen umgruppieren, um eine Weiterverlegung vorzubereiten”, hieß es in einem Brief des Generals der US-Marineinfanterie, William Seely, der den Einsatz im Irak kommandiert. “Wir respektieren Ihre souveräne Entscheidung, unseren Abzug anzuordnen.” Das Schreiben konnte Reuters am Montag einsehen. Ein Insider aus irakischen Militärkreisen bestätigte die Authentizität des Briefes, der an das Verteidigungsministerium in Bagdad adressiert war. Ein Sprecher des US-Verteidigungsministeriums konnte auf Anfrage die Authentizität des Briefes zunächst nicht bestätigen.
