ABQnews| Iran / Teheran | Im Iran ist nach Regierungsangaben ein riesiges Erdölfeld entdeckt worden. Das mehr als 2000 Quadratkilometer große Gebiet im Südwesten des Landes verfüge über 53 Milliarden Barrel Öl, sagte Präsident Hassan Ruhani am Sonntag in einer vom Staatsfernsehen übertragenen Rede. Sollten sich die Angaben bestätigen, würde sich das Erdölvorkommen im Iran um ein Drittel erhöhen.
Das Ölfeld liege in der Provinz Chusestan nahe der Grenze zum Irak und dehne sich fast 200 Kilometer bis zur Stadt Omidiyeh aus, sagte Ruhani. “Dies ist ein kleines Geschenk der Regierung an die Iraner”, sagte der Präsident weiter.
Der Energiekonzern BP schätzt das Rohölvorkommen im Iran bisher auf 155,6 Milliarden Barrel. Die Islamische Republik stand damit bereits an vierter Stelle der größten Ölnationen der Welt. Bei den Gasreserven steht das Land sogar an zweiter Stelle weltweit. Seine Ölexporte sind allerdings wegen der von den USA verhängten Sanktionen nach ihrem Ausstieg aus dem Atomabkommen mit dem Iran eingebrochen.
