ABQnews| UN / UNFCCC / Chile / Spanien | Die UN-Klimakonferenz findet in Madrid statt. Diese Entscheidung gab das Klimasekretariat der Vereinten Nationen (UNFCCC) am Freitag an seinem Sitz in Bonn bekannt. Die Konferenz werde wie geplant in der Zeit vom 2. bis 13. Dezember abgehalten, hieß es weiter. Eigentlich war Chile als Gastgeberland für die diesjährige UN-Klimakonferenz vorgesehen.

Angesichts der politischen Unruhen in seinem Land hatte Chiles Staatschef Sebastián Piñera jedoch am Mittwoch die Konferenz abgesagt und damit monatelange Vorbereitungen über den Haufen geworfen. Die spanische Regierung hatte am Donnerstag daraufhin angeboten, mit dem Austragungsort Madrid in die Bresche zu springen.
Zur 25. UN-Klimakonferenz wurden 25.000 Delegierte in Santiago erwartet, unter ihnen auch die schwedische Klimaaktivistin Greta Thunberg. Chile wird seit dem 18. Oktober von schweren politischen Unruhen erschüttert.
