ABQnews| Irak/ Bagdad | Bei neuen regierungskritischen Protesten in Bagdad sind am Freitag zwei Demonstranten getötet worden. Wie die irakische Menschenrechtskommission mitteilte, wurden die beiden von einer Tränengasgranate im Gesicht getroffen. Das spirituelle Oberhaupt der Schiiten im Irak, Großayatollah Ali al-Sistani, rief in seiner Freitagspredigt Demonstranten und Sicherheitskräfte zur “Zurückhaltung” auf, um ein Abgleiten ins “Chaos” zu vermeiden. In der Hauptstadt hatten sich seit Donnerstagabend tausende Iraker versammelt und den Sturz der Regierung gefordert.

Wie ein Journalist der Nachrichtenagentur AFP berichtete, setzten Polizeikräfte Tränengas ein, um die Menge von der sogenannten Grünen Zone zu vertreiben, die Sitz der Regierung sowie ausländischer Botschaften ist. Erwartet wird, dass die Zahl der Demonstranten im Laufe des Tages weiter ansteigen wird, nachdem der radikale Schiiten-Führer Moktada al-Sadr ihnen seine Unterstützung zugesichert hat.
