ABQnews| USA / New York | Das Manifest, mit dem Pierre de Coubertin 1892 für seine Idee von Olympischen Spielen der Neuzeit warb, wird im Dezember in New York versteigert. Der Schätzwert des 14-seitigen Originalmanuskripts liegt bei zwischen 700.000 und einer Million Dollar, wie das Auktionshaus Sotheby’s am Mittwoch mitteilte. Es ist demnach die einzige bekannte Fassung des Manifests.
De Coubertin hatte 1892 bei einer Rede in Paris dafür geworben, die Olympischen Spiele der Antike wiederauferstehen zu lassen. Dem französischen Baron schwebte ein moderner und internationaler Wettbewerb vor, bei dem sportlicher Ehrgeiz und Fair Play im Vordergrund stehen sollten.
Zwei Jahre später gründete de Coubertin das Internationale Olympische Komitee. Die ersten Olympischen Spiele der Neuzeit fanden dann 1896 in Athen statt.
Das Manifest wurde jetzt in Los Angeles erstmals öffentlich gezeigt. Die Versteigerung ist am 18. Dezember in New York geplant.
