ABQnews| Großbritannien / Schweden / USA / Ecuador / London | Wikileaks-Gründer Julian Assange soll heute in London vor Gericht erscheinen. Bei dem Termin am Westminster Magistrates’ Court wird es um die Frage gehen, ob der 48-jährige Australier aus der Haft entlassen werden kann. Assange will erreichen, dass er zur Bewährung freigelassen wird und verweist auf seinen schlechten Gesundheitszustand.
Assange war im April in London verhaftet worden und sitzt nun eine fast einjährige Gefängnisstrafe wegen Verstoßes gegen Kautionsauflagen ab. Zuvor hatte er sich sieben Jahre lang in der ecuadorianischen Botschaft in London verschanzt, um einer Auslieferung nach Schweden wegen Vergewaltigungsvorwürfen aus dem Jahr 2010 zu entgehen. In den USA ist Assange wegen der Veröffentlichung geheimer Dokumente und Verstößen gegen das Anti-Spionage-Gesetz angeklagt. Er müsste dort mit einer lebenslangen Gefängnisstrafe rechnen.
