ABQnews| Frankreich / Paris | Mit einer Trauerfeier im Pariser Invalidendom nimmt Frankreich am Sonntag Abschied von dem verstorbenen früheren Staatschef Jacques Chirac (14.00 Uhr). Auf Wunsch der Familie sollen Bürger die Möglichkeit erhalten, sich um den Sarg ihres ehemaligen Präsidenten zu versammeln. Dies soll Chiracs Volksnähe unterstreichen.
Zu einer Trauermesse am Montag wird auch Bundespräsident Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Paris erwartet. Chirac soll dann auf dem Pariser Friedhof Montparnasse beigesetzt werden. Chirac war am Donnerstag im Alter von 86 Jahren verstorben. Während seiner Präsidentschaft von 1995 bis 2007 setzte er auf eine enge Partnerschaft mit Deutschland. Gemeinsam mit dem früheren Bundeskanzler Gerhard Schröder (SPD) lehnte er 2003 eine Teilnahme am Irak-Krieg der USA ab.
