ABQnews| Kolumbien / Ecuador / Bolivien / Brasilien / Peru / Amazon | Ein Amazonas-Gipfel im kolumbianischen Leticia beschäftigt sich am Freitag mit den verheerenden Bränden in der Region. An dem Treffen nehmen die Präsidenten der Amazonas-Länder Kolumbien, Peru, Ecuador und Bolivien sowie Surinames Vize-Präsident teil. Brasilien, zu dem der größte Teil der Amazonas-Wälder zählt, schickt seinen Außenminister Ernesto Araújo. Staatschef Jair Bolsonaro hat seine Teilnahme aus medizinischen Gründen abgesagt, will aber per Videoschaltung teilnehmen.
Kolumbiens Außenminister Carlos Holmes Trujillo kündigte an, der Gipfel werde einen “großen globalen Aufruf” für einen besseren Schutz der Amazonas-Wälder starten. Dieser solle konkrete Maßnahmen und einen Zeitplan für deren Umsetzung beinhalten. Im größten Tropenwald der Welt, der für das globale Klima eine entscheidende Rolle spielt, wüten derzeit die schwersten Brände seit Jahren. Der Rechtsaußenpolitiker und Klimaskeptiker Bolsonaro ergriff nur widerwillig Gegenmaßnahmen und steht deshalb international in der Kritik.
