ABQnews| Kasachstan / Astana | In Kasachstan hat am Sonntag die Präsidentschaftswahl begonnen. Zur Wahl aufgerufen sind knapp zehn Millionen Wähler. Die Wahllokale sollten um 16.00 Uhr MESZ schließen.
Die Wahl erfolgt zweieinhalb Monate nach dem überraschenden Rücktritt des jahrzehntelang herrschenden Präsidenten Nursultan Nasarbajew. Ein Sieg des von Nasarbajew ernannten Übergangspräsidenten Kassim-Jomart Tokajew gilt als ausgemachte Sache. Gegen den 66-jährigen Ex-Außenminister treten sechs Kandidaten an, die in dem 18-Millionen-Einwohner-Staat kaum bekannt sind.
Tokajew hatte seinen Landsleuten eine “ehrliche, offene und faire” Wahl versprochen. Von westlichen Wahlbeobachtern wurden Wahlen in dem zentralasiatischen Land bisher allerdings nicht als frei und fair eingestuft. Menschenrechtsorganisationen beklagen zudem eine Unterdrückung der Opposition. Der wichtigste Kritiker des früheren Staatschefs Nasarbajew, der im Ausland lebende Banker Muchtar Abljasow, rief für Sonntag zu Protesten im ganzen Land auf.
