ABQnews| Kanada / Venezuela | Kanada schließt vorübergehend seine Botschaft im südamerikanischen Krisenstaat Venezuela. Außenministerin Chrystia Freeland warf der Regierung des venezolanischen Staatschefs Nicolás Maduro am Sonntag vor, kanadischen Diplomaten die Akkreditierung zu verweigern. Die Visa der Diplomaten würden bald auslaufen.
Die kanadische Botschaft müsse deswegen bis auf Weiteres ihre Arbeit einstellen, erklärte Freeland. Zugleich kündigte die Außenministerin an, den Status von venezolanischen Diplomaten der Maduro-Regierung in Kanada zu überprüfen.
Kanada war im Januar eines der ersten Länder, das den selbsternannten Übergangspräsidenten Juan Guaidó anerkannte. Inzwischen haben sich mehr als 50 Staaten hinter den Oppositionsführer gestellt, der seit Monaten mit Maduro um die Macht ringt.
