ABQnews| USA / Japan |  Die USA dringen auf ein rasches Handelsabkommen mit Japan.

Das betonte US-Präsident Donald Trump am Montag während seines Staatsbesuchs in Japan nach einem Treffen mit Ministerpräsident Shinzo Abe. Trump sagte, sein Ziel sei eine Beseitigung von Handelsbarrieren, damit US-Exporte fairere Chancen in Japan hätten. Er hoffe, schon sehr bald eine Einigung bekanntgeben zu können. Trump verband das Thema Handel ausdrücklich mit dem Thema Sicherheit. Hier müsse es insgesamt einen Ausgleich geben. Für Japan ist dies eine heikle Verknüpfung, denn das Land stützt seine Verteidigung auf sein enges Bündnis mit den USA. Trump äußerte sich zugleich zufrieden mit der Entwicklung der Nordkorea-Frage. Abe sagte, beide Politiker hätten vereinbart, die bilateralen Handelsgespräche zu beschleunigen.

Trump stößt sich an Japans großem Überschuss im Handel mit den USA. Er will dieses Ungleichgewicht in den bilateralen Verhandlungen korrigieren. Die Regierung in Washington erwägt dazu etwa Importzölle auf japanische Autos. Ähnlich geht Trump im Handelsstreit mit der EU vor.
