ABQnews| Großbritannien / USA / Ecuador /London /Wikileaks| In London beginnt heute das Gerichtsverfahren um eine mögliche Auslieferung von Julian Assange an die USA. Es ist die erste Anhörung zum Gesuch der Vereinigten Staaten. Sie wollen dem Wikileaks-Gründer wegen seiner Rolle bei der Veröffentlichung von hunderttausenden geheimer Regierungsdokumente den Prozess machen. Beobachter gehen davon aus, dass bis zu einer endgültigen Entscheidung Jahre vergehen könnten.
Assange war im Jahr 2012 in die Botschaft Ecuadors in London geflohen, weil er eine Auslieferung an Schweden und von dort weiter in die USA befürchtete. Anfang April war er in der Botschaft verhaftet worden. Rechtsexperten gehen davon aus, dass der Fall über Jahre vor britischen Gerichten verhandelt werden und letztlich vor den Europäischen Gerichtshof gehen könnte. Assanges Anwältin hat bereits angekündigt, dass ihr Mandant das Auslieferungsgesuch “anfechten und bekämpfen” will.
