ABQnews| USA/ Washington DC | Das US-Außenministerium hat eine neue Pressesprecherin mit guten Verbindungen zum konservativen Nachrichtensender Fox News. Außenminister Mike Pompeo stellte am Mittwoch Morgan Ortagus als neue Sprecherin seines Ministeriums vor. Sie trat bislang bei Fox News, dem Lieblingssender von US-Präsident Donald Trump, als Kommentatorin zu Themen der nationalen Sicherheit auf. Ortagus’ Vorgängerin Heather Nauert war vor ihrer Berufung ins Außenministerium Moderatorin von Fox News.

Ortagus hat in der Vergangenheit unter anderem als Analystin für Geheimdienstinformationen für das US-Finanzministerium und in der Presseabteilung der Hilfsorganisation USAID gearbeitet. Sie war in Saudi-Arabien und im Irak im Einsatz. Während des Präsidentschaftswahlkampfes kritisierte sie zwar Trumps außenpolitische Ansichten; später verteidigte sie seine Politik aber.

Ortagus’ Vorgängerin Nauert war im Dezember von Trump als neue US-Botschafterin bei den Vereinten Nationen nominiert worden. Sie zog ihre Bewerbung später aber zurück und begründete dies damit, dass die zwei Monate seit ihrer Nominierung für ihre Familie eine Strapaze gewesen seien. Nauert ist seit Wochen nicht mehr öffentlich in Erscheinung getreten.
