ABQnews| Türkei/ USA| Der türkische Staatschef Recep Tayyip Erdogan hat US-Präsident Donald Trump für das kommende Jahr zu einem Besuch in der Türkei eingeladen. Das Weiße Haus erklärte am Montag, Trump sei “offen” für ein mögliches Treffen. Fest geplant sei aber noch nichts. Die beiden Präsidenten hatten erst am Sonntag miteinander telefoniert und dabei den geplanten US-Truppenabzug aus Syrien besprochen.
Während Trumps Abzugsentscheidung bei vielen westlichen Partnern Kritik hervorgerufen hat, wird der Schritt in der Türkei begrüßt. Ankara bekommt durch einen Abzug der US-Soldaten freie Hand im Kampf gegen kurdische Rebellen in Syrien, mit denen die US-Armee bislang im Kampf gegen die Dschihadistenmiliz Islamischer Staat (IS) zusammenarbeitete.
