ABQnews| Kuwait / Kuwait | Am Donnerstag hat Kuwait nach Monaten des politischen Stillstands in dem ölreichen Land die Gewinner der Wahlen zur Nationalversammlung bekannt gegeben.
Die Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) berichtete, tausende Kuwaitis erschienen in den Wahllokalen, um aus den 305 Kandidaten, 50 Mitglieder auszuwählen, die für die nächsten vier Jahre im Amt sein werden. Zu den Kandidaten gehörten auch 22 Frauen, die sich in fünf verschiedenen Wahlkreisen um die Sitze bewarben. Das Parlament ist rein männlich, seit die einzige weibliche Abgeordnete im Dezember 2020 ihren Sitz verlor.
Die Wahlen sind die sechsten innerhalb von zehn Jahren in Kuwait – dem einzigen arabischen Golfstaat mit einem vollständig gewählten Parlament.
Die Wahlen fanden statt, nachdem Kronprinz Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah die Auflösung des Parlaments im Juni nach Streitigkeiten zwischen Gesetzgebern und der Regierung angekündigt hatte, die vierte, die in zwei Jahren ernannt wurde.
