ABQnews| USA / New York | Die US-Regierung darf einer Richterin zufolge zunächst nicht gegen Menschenrechtsanwälte vorgehen, die die Arbeit des Internationalen Strafgerichtshofs (IStGH) unterstützen.
Bundesbezirksrichterin Katherine Polk Failla erließ Montag eine entsprechende einstweilige Verfügung und blockierte damit einen Erlass von Präsident Donald Trump. Die Maßnahme der Regierung dürfte ein Verstoß gegen die in der Verfassung garantierte Meinungsfreiheit darstellen, sagte sie zur Begründung. “Sorgen um die nationale Sicherheit dürfen nicht zum Talisman werden, um unbequeme Vorwürfe abzuwehren.” Eine Stellungnahme des Justizministeriums lag zunächst nicht vor.
Mitglieder des IStGH befassen sich unter anderem mit mutmaßlichen US-Kriegsverbrechen von 2003 bis 2014 in Afghanistan. Vertreter der Trump-Regierung werfen dem Gericht vor, die Souveränität der USA zu verletzen und russischen Interessen zu dienen. Insidern zufolge könnte der designierte Präsident Joe Biden die Maßnahmen seines Vorgängers rückgängig machen.
